Si,   god afton    och god kväll
Well, good evening and good night,

min utvaldaste vän.
(to you,) my most special friend.

Å hur lever väl världen med dig?
And how has the world treated you?

Har du nöjen           och mår bra,
If you have amusements and feel fine,

som jag tror väl, att du har,
that I certainly think you have,

har du hälsan,             visst roar det mig.
if you are in good health, by all means it pleases me.

Har du silver,      har du gull,
Do you have silver, do you have gold,

har du kistorna full?
are your coffers full?

Har du penningar,           visst roar det mig.
If you have a lot of money, certainly it pleases me.

Men jag har ett förnöjsamt sinn,
But I have  an unpretentious mind,

det är rikedomen min.
which is my (great) asset.

Det är bättre                  än penningar och guld.
(And) that is better (to have) than coins and gold.

När jag tänker uppå dig,
When I think of you,

röres blodet    i mig.
the blood stirs within me.

Lilla vännen,  förglöm aldrig mig.
My little one, do never forget me.

Ser du     stjärnorna de små
Do you see the tiny stars,

uppå himmelen den blå
there upon the blue sky,

falla neder till jorden         som strå.
how they fall down on the earth like straws.

Förr skall  sjöar och strand
Rather will the seas and the shores

bliva torra som sand,
become dry  as sand,

förrän jag tager mig någon ann.
before I will have anyone but you.

Förr skall  måne och sol
Rather will the moon and the sun

falla neder på vår jord,
fall down   upon our earth,

än att jag tar tillbaka dessa ord.
before I retract these words.
